Global Styles & Brand Colors

Configure organization-wide styling defaults for consistent branding across all signatures.

Last updated: Oct 30, 2024

Global styles ensure brand consistency across all your email signatures. Configure colors, fonts, and spacing once, and they apply everywhere.

Accessing Global Styles

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar
  2. Your organization settings include brand configuration
  3. Configure colors, logo, and other style defaults

During onboarding, Signkit automatically extracts brand colors and logo from your company website. You can adjust these settings at any time.

Brand Colors

Primary Color

Your main brand color, used for:

  • Links and interactive elements
  • Icon accents
  • Headers and emphasis

Enter as hex code (e.g., #1a73e8) or use the color picker.

Secondary Color

A complementary color for:

  • Secondary buttons
  • Backgrounds
  • Borders

Text Colors

Configure default text colors:

  • Primary text: Main content (typically dark gray or black)
  • Secondary text: Less important text (typically medium gray)
  • Muted text: Subtle elements (typically light gray)

Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors for accessibility. Use a contrast checker tool.

Typography

Font Family

Choose your primary font:

Web-Safe Options:

  • Arial / Helvetica
  • Georgia
  • Times New Roman
  • Verdana
  • Trebuchet MS

Why Web-Safe?

Email clients don't support custom fonts consistently. Web-safe fonts ensure your signatures look the same everywhere.

Font Sizes

Set default sizes for each element type:

| Element | Recommended Size | |---------|-----------------| | Name | 14-16px | | Title | 12-14px | | Contact info | 12-13px | | Disclaimer | 10-11px |

Font Weights

  • Normal (400): Body text
  • Medium (500): Subtle emphasis
  • Semibold (600): Headings
  • Bold (700): Strong emphasis

Spacing

Element Spacing

Control space between signature elements:

  • Tight: 4-8px between elements
  • Normal: 8-12px between elements
  • Relaxed: 12-16px between elements

Line Height

Set the spacing between lines of text:

  • Compact: 1.2
  • Normal: 1.4
  • Relaxed: 1.6

Logo Settings

Your organization logo is set in Settings and serves as the default for all templates:

  1. Go to Settings in the sidebar
  2. Find the logo section
  3. Upload your logo file (PNG or JPG)
  4. Save changes

Recommended specifications:

  • Format: PNG with transparency
  • Width: 150-200px
  • File size: Under 100KB

Logo Fallback Behavior

When templates include a logo block:

  • If no custom logo is uploaded for the template, your organization logo appears automatically
  • This ensures brand consistency without manual configuration per template
  • Individual templates can still override with custom logos

Logo Variations

Consider uploading variations for different contexts:

  • Full logo: Company name + icon
  • Icon only: For compact signatures
  • Light version: For dark backgrounds

Social Icons

Default Platforms

Select which social platforms appear by default:

  1. LinkedIn
  2. Twitter/X
  3. Facebook
  4. Instagram
  5. YouTube

Icon Style

Choose a consistent style:

  • Colored: Platform's brand colors
  • Monochrome: Single color (uses primary or custom)
  • Outlined: Stroke-only icons

Icon Size

Set the default icon size:

  • Small: 16px
  • Medium: 20px
  • Large: 24px

Applying Global Styles

To New Templates

New templates automatically inherit global styles. You can override specific settings in each template.

To Existing Templates

To apply updated global styles to existing templates:

  1. Open the template
  2. Click Actions > Apply Global Styles
  3. Choose which settings to update
  4. Save the template

Applying global styles may override template-specific customizations.

Style Inheritance

Global styles follow this hierarchy:

Organization Settings (Global)
    ↓
Template Settings (Can override)
    ↓
Signature Settings (Can override)

Each level can override the settings above it.

Previewing Styles

Before saving global style changes:

  1. Click Preview
  2. View sample signatures with new styles
  3. Check across different template types
  4. Verify readability and brand alignment

Exporting Brand Guidelines

Export your brand settings for documentation:

  1. Go to Settings > Brand
  2. Click Export Guidelines
  3. Download as PDF or JSON

This is useful for sharing with designers or documenting your setup.

Common Issues

Colors Not Matching

  • Double-check hex codes
  • Ensure no template overrides exist
  • Clear browser cache and refresh

Fonts Rendering Differently

  • Stick to web-safe fonts
  • Test in actual email clients, not just preview
  • Some email clients ignore font settings entirely

Logo Appearing Blurry

  • Upload a higher resolution image
  • Use PNG format
  • Check dimensions aren't being scaled up

Best Practices

  1. Document your brand: Keep hex codes and specifications recorded
  2. Test thoroughly: Check signatures in multiple email clients
  3. Stay consistent: Limit variations across templates
  4. Review periodically: Update when brand guidelines change
